Waterfront Art at Muzenplein

In the late 1920s, the city’s Art Affairs Department of Amsterdam invited nine artists to create sculptures for the Muzenplein.

These works were placed along the waterfront, on a wall that links two bridges (numbers 419 and 420). Each one shows a child holding a toy or an animal.

The first and last sculptures mark the ends of the wall, like bookends in stone. Even though the pieces were made by nine different artists, they still form a harmonious whole.
